This coffee is from the 78 women producers of ARGCAFEE (Association de Transformadores y Comercializadores de Cafe Especiales de Argelia Cauca) as part of the Coca Substitution Program, a joint venture between ARGCAFEE, Cafe Imports, and Banexport. Argelia is a region that traditionally produces a lot of illicit crops and this partnership is designed to encourage coffee production instead. The partnership operates a nursery that cultivates leaf-rust resistant varieties as well as agronomical training. Probably more importantly for producers, the program guarantees an above-average purchase price for the crops, thus reducing the financial temptations of the narco-state.

The ARGCAFEE association started in 2014 with only 17 member producers. As Argelia is relatively remote, it had been hard for the small farmers in the area to reach the marketplace and have leverage in their selling. Through their work, however, the association grew to over 230 members, about 150 of whom are presently active in farming and delivering lots to the association.
